News for Llamacon 2006:
Llamacon 2006 announces new guests and an attendance cap
New guests of honor include web comic artists Rich Stevens and R*K* MilhollandGREAT BARRINGTON, MA – Jan 3rd 2005 – Llamacon 2006, the upcoming one-day anime con hosted by the Simon's Rock Anime Club, has announced the latest additions to its guest roster with less than eight weeks remaining before the convention.
To add to the star-studded list of webcomic guests, Llamacon has confirmed that R*K* Milholland, creator of Something Positive (http://www.somethingpositive.net), as well as Rich Stevens, creator of Diesel Sweeties (http://www.dieselsweeties.com) will be present at the convention.
The con has also announced the presence of two well-known patrons of anime (and, in particular, DBZ) fandom. Mike Labrie and Meri Cantoni, longtime fansite webmasters, AMV editors, and fan parody actors, will be sharing their knowledge and experience in the panel track.
As the convention nears, Llamacon staffers have determined that the convention will only be able to sell 500 registrations. Should the number of pre-registrations reach 450 by January 31st, there will be no at-the-door registration offered.
About r*k* milholland: Known across all sorts of geek scenes for his razor-sharp wit and dedicated fanbase, R*K* Milholland will be bringing his experience as the writer of one of the most popular webcomics on the internet, Something Positive (http://www.somethingpositive.com), to Llamacon. R*K*, born and raised in Dallas but now a resident of the Boston suburbs, held several odd jobs before starting Something Positive and being the loose inspiration for Davan, the main character – in fact, almost all of the characters are based off of him and his friends (except, of course, for Choo Choo Bear). In addition to Something Positive, R*K* has created several spinoff comics, including New Gold Dreams (http://www.newgolddreams.com), Midnight Macabre (http://www.midnightmacabre.com) and Rhymes with Witch (http://www.rhymeswithwitch.com). An avid gamer, R*K* has also loaned his art for the infamous Redneck Tree to Steve Jackson's Munchkin 3: Clerical Errors expansion set and has appeared at several gaming and anime conventions in the past few years.
About Rich Stevens: With a cast of characters ranging from emo robots to alcoholic ex-pornstars, one can expect Rich Stevens, the writer of Diesel Sweeties (http://www.dieselsweeties.com) to be equally eclectic. Rich brings his unique pixellated series, which has been running since 2000, to dedicated fans every weekday. Diesel Sweeties features enough non-sequiturs and random humor to make even the most hardcore DS fans wonder what he's up to. In addition to being a graphic design professor (with no degree, a fact that humors him to no end), Rich has been interviewed for several websites, including Popmatters, Connexions Music, Sequential Tart, and the ever-popular Suicide Girls. Rich will bring his humor and ever-popular DS tee-shirts to the Artist Alley as well as the Panel track.
About Mike Labrie & Meri Cantoni: Meredith "Meri" Cantoni and Michael "VegettoEX" LaBrie continue bring their 10 years of anime fandom to insane heights with their guest appearance at Llamacon. As maintainers of long-running "Dragonball Z" websites (Temple O' Trunks [http://www.templeotrunks.com] and Daizenshuu EX [http://www.daizex.com], respectively), they have also branched off into the world of Anime Music Videos, as well as anime fandubs (including "This is Otakudom" and "S.T.E.A.M." by Studio NoNDE), making them true renaissance otaku. More recently, Mike and Meri have started a DBZ-related podcast as an extention of their websites.
