News for Setsucon 2021:
Setsucon 2021 Will be Occurring Virtually This Coming April
ALTOONA, PA - Setsucon, Pennsylvania's winter anime convention, will be holding an online-event, in-place of its previously announced in-person event, this year. The online-only convention will occur on April 10th and 11th, the same weekend that the convention planned to be after moving from its tradition January spots for this year only. The virtual convention will be presented at no-cost and open to all via its streaming platform.
When Setsucon initially announced its 2021 convention back in September, it had scheduled a shift from its normal timeslot in hopes that large events would be able to happen safely by April. However, as the coronavirus pandemic continued to keep large events shuttered, it was deemed in the best interests of the health and safety of the region to postpone in-person activities to next year and hold their 15th convention online, with the next in-person Setsucon occurring January 28th-30th, 2022 at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
The convention strives to make the weekend long online convention a celebration of anime, manga, gaming, cosplay, and Japanese culture, as well as connecting the community in ways that it normally would at an in-person convention.
Setsucon has experience in the streaming world, having started a Twitch channel back in November 2020 that features both original programming and gaming streams, including a weekly tabletop rpg series, an anime talk show, party game nights, and much more. The convention looks to utilize many of those streaming skills in order to make the online convention both interactive and unique.
Further information regarding how the convention will be run, events that will be held, and how to participate will be available on their website at www.setsucon.com in the coming weeks. Additional information regarding the shift online is also available on their website under the Online Switch FAQ tab.
