Shuto Con supports charities, local and abroad
Lansing, Mich, Mar. 15, 2011 - Local anime convention, Shuto Con, is teaming up with two charities this year, both of which are desperately seeking help.
Most recently Shuto Con approached the American Red Cross which is seeking aid in support the victims of the devastating tsunami and earthquake in Japan.
Shuto Con was formed as a convention to celebrate the best in art and pop culture of Japan, but the recent earthquake has caused staff and attendees to look at this event with another scope in mind.
"Since Shuto Con wouldn't even exist without Japan's citizens, animation, music, and culture, we wanted to help out in any way we could," said event chairwoman, Stefanie Shall, who also said donations may be made at the event registration desk in forms of cash, money order, or check (made payable to the American Red Cross), or after the convention they may be made directly to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org.
"Every passing day more and more Japanese citizens are struggling to get by, trying desperately to find clean water to drink, warm shelter to sleep in, and safe food to eat. Together with your generous donations we can help them survive this horrible tragedy," said Shall.
Shuto Con is also partnered with the Lansing Food Bank, since after the birth of the convention.
Stefanie selected this charity because of its local impact: helping combat hunger in our own community, and mobilizing the attendees of Shuto Con to make an impact.
"We are asking when you come to pick up your membership badges on Friday or Saturday, you donate non-perishable food items to the LFB, especially items such as packaged or cup Ramen," said Stefanie, who knows for the inexpensive price, these noodles can feed an entire family.
Donation bins will be placed next to the registration area, but Shuto Con staff will also accept cash donations or checks made payable to the Lansing Food Bank.
"Please consider donating to the LFB, as hunger is something no family should have to go through," said Stefanie.
